Even with the best preventative medicine, injuries are unavoidable. When injuries occur, CCVC offers a wide array of regenerative medicine techniques and services to help get your equine athlete back in the ring.

STEM CELL THERAPY: Stem cells can be utilized to aid in both the speed and quality of repair for tendon and ligament injuries. Bone marrow or adipose tissue harvested from the patient are used to isolate and purify mesenchymal stem cells that are then injected using ultrasound guidance, directly into the injury. Stem cells can be frozen, banked and used to ‘farm’ additional cells in the future for further treatments.

Anti-inflammatory effect: Minimal.

Regenerative effect: Moderate.

Main use: Soft tissue injuries.

IRAP: Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IRAP) is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory protein isolated and purified from the patient's blood. IRAP serves to block the inflammatory cascade (IL-1 mediated) and is most commonly used to treat joint inflammation. IRAP can be frozen and banked for future use. PRP: Platelet rich plasma is a combination of stem cells and growth factors concentrated from the patient's blood. Main use: Soft tissue injuries, some intra-articular therapies.

PRO-STRIDE APS: A solution of cells, platelets, growth factors and anti-inflammatory proteins (IL-1 mediated) derived from the patient’s blood. This product is an effective joint anti-inflammatory with added benefit for treating joint related injuries (synovitis/capsulitis, meniscal injuries etc). This product can be used to effectively treat patients where steriods are not indicated, for more frequent treatment or for use during FEI competition. ALPHA2EQ: A filtered plasma solution harvested from the patient’s blood with concentrated Alpha-2-Macroglubulin (A2M). A2M is a protease inhibitor that helps to block mediators of cartilage breakdown and help to up-regulate cartilage protecting genes. This product can be used to effectively treat patients where steriods are not indicated, for more frequent treatment or for use during FEI competition. This product can be used fresh at the time of harvest or frozen and banked for future use.

Regenerative effect : Minimal.

SYNTHETIC JOINT LUBRICANTS (polyacrylamide gels/Arthramid/Synamid/Noltrex): In joints with significant cartilage pathology and/or loss, polyacrylamide gels can provide mechanical support against friction and have been found to have positive effects on joints that are often considered end stage.
